Can Bill Nye control meteors? The Science Guy flew out of our office yesterday after discussing the need to fund space research. He says asteroids and meteors are the only types of natural disasters that humans can prevent. The last time we had Bill Nye on the show, a meteor hit Russia the same night, which makes us wonder: is Bill Nye actually controlling space???

Watch yesterday’s interview here, and tune in to “The Young Turks” for more science knowledge Monday-Thursday @ 7e/4.

The most hilarious TYT peace out yet.

Today’s shooting at Lone Star College in Texas brings the ongoing gun control debate to the forefront again. What causes mass violence in the US? What can be done to lower the number of shootings each year?

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) joins “The Young Turks” TONIGHT at 7E/4P to talk about progress on gun legislation in Congress.

Cenk weighs in on the tragic school shooting in Newtown, Conn., asking again what it will take for politicians to act on gun control.

“There’s no way in the world they all would have been dead if that shooter didn’t have a gun,” he says. “No way, no how. People will make their ridiculous arguments…about how you can kill people with other things… but they don’t. They kill them with guns. And they killed 20 young kids today with a gun. They tell us, not now, not now. Don’t talk about it. Don’t politicize it. It’s a trick. They don’t want you to talk about it now because they don’t want you to talk about it ever. Because they don’t want to fix it.”

Why should equal rights be a popularity contest? As the Supreme Court considers challenges to constitutionality and the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8, Cenk comments on how much their decisions can be influenced by the popularity the issue has among American citizens. Sometimes decisions also depend on the evolution of a judge’s view, like Justice Scalia’s curious track record with gay rights.

TYT hits the 1-year anniversary mark today! Comedian, actor, and notorious marijuana advocate Tommy Chong visits the studio to help celebrate and talk legalizing recreational marijuana use in Washington and Colorado. No guarantees, but we’re trying to get him to light a joint using a birthday candle.

I feel really good about joining the people who work on this show a year ago. Here’s to another year of shenanigans!

Say what, Bill O’Reilly? Have Republicans gotten so overzealous about proving there’s a “War on Christmas” that they’re now shooting themselves in the foot?

TYT’s Ben Mankiewicz reviews “Homeland” and ex-CIA clandestine officer Lindsay Moran rates how well the show reflects the reality of working in intelligence. (We’re willing to bet “having affairs with terrorists” is one of the TV-only elements.)
